To provide access to a variety of informational resources to support the curriculum, foster a love for reading, and ensure the school community is effective users of information for learning and for leisure.

LDCSB School Library Goals

• Educate students on the functionality, organization and purpose of libraries so that they can be library users for life
• Demonstrate how to research with purpose and process
• Promote and foster a love for reading for pleasure and learning
• Develop library collections that encompass a variety of formats to support Catholic Graduate Expectations
• Facilitate the use of technology for learning, research and communication

What the Research says about School Libraries

Research undeniably and repeatedly shows clear links between student achievement and the existence of libraries stocked with a variety of resources, and staffed by qualified librarians who collaborate with teachers.

Library Access

Some students just simply eat up books! This is something that I love to see. Students are more than welcome to visit the library outside of their regular library period 4 days a week after 3:10 or when there is not another class in the library. We hope that having this flexibility will help foster a life-long love of reading.

 

DEAR Club

 

Every Wednesday at lunch recess, Grade 4-8 students are welcome to Drop Everything and Read! Students meet in the library at lunch recess and spend their recess with a good book. 

 

Forest of Reading 

 

An exciting reading program that allows students to take part in selecting winning authors is coming to St. Theresa this year. This program is entitled the Forest of Reading. Blue Spruce is for FDK-Grade 2 and this will be run during library period. Silver Birch Express is for Grades 3-4 and will be run as a club at lunch recess, Silver Birch Fiction is for Grades 5-6 and will also be run as a club. Red Maple will be run independently by those 7-8s that are interested. 

 

Students must read at least 5 books out 10 in order to vote. Voting takes place in April and the Festival where students gather with selected authors occurs in May! We encourage students to use the Public Library in order to access titles as we have a limited number of books to share among participants.

Loan Period

 

Children in grades JK - 3 can have one item checked out at any time.  Grade  4 - 8 students can take two books at a time. The normal loan period is two weeks. Verbal reminders are given when materials are overdue. An overdue notice will be sent home if the item is not returned after 2 weeks. When a book is deemed lost, a bill will be sent home so that the book can be replaced.

Damaged Books

 

PLEASE do not try to repair books at home. Special materials are used to make book repairs. Please report any damage you find to Mrs. Koivu so it can be fixed. If a book is damaged beyond repair the borrower will be asked to pay the replacement cost.

Thank you for thinking of St. Theresa, however the Library will no longer be accepting book donations. Please see the following list of organizations around London that will gladly take your donations.
